Coocoo for Coconuts!

Have you always longed for smooth, healthy skin, and silky hair? Well I do and after years of trial and error and damaging my skin with chemical filled products, I finally caved in and decided to try the healthy alternative. Ummmm… why did I not jump on this bandwagon sooner? I have absolutely NO idea, but I am an Aries and we can be stubborn at times so forgive me okay? But now that I have educated myself a bit I save money, calories, and actually gain health benefits by using coconut oil as a part of my everyday routine. When used on your body or taken orally, virgin coconut oil helps keep skin soft and smooth. Its Vitamin E wonderfulness makes it a great anti-wrinkle, age defying cold cream for the eyes! Much research explains why many seem to say coconut oil is responsible for that and many more health benefits. It prevents diseases, such as cardiovascular disease, cancer and other degenerative diseases.

It also fights bacterial, fungal and viral infections of the skin and body. I going to be honest here, I have always suffered from having a bit of fungi grow on my toe nails, from injuries (but really being in denial as a kid that I had big feet and would stuff them into small shoes…) and once I incorporated coconut oil into my diet it has disappeared! It’s long gone. CAN YOU TELL HOW EXCITED I AM ABOUT THIS?!

If all of the benefits already mentioned aren’t up to par then let me just remind you about the constant struggle of living a healthy and fit lifestyle. I know firsthand how difficult and expensive transitioning into a healthy lifestyle can be. That makes discovering nutrient rich, organic and inexpensive items you can find in your local supermarket super valuable. Coconut Oil is the modern day remedy moms should use for literally EVERYTHING. Here are 5 amazing everyday POWERFUL uses for Coconut Oil:

1.Hair Mask:

You might have noticed that coconut oil turns into a creamy solid at room temperature (turns to liquid at 76 degrees). I personally like to soak my hair in coconut oil a few hours before my clarifying and deep conditioning routine ( link to this blog here). My hair has gained their curls back after years of dying and heating my hair! It has felt like a miracle especially after moving to Las Vegas in the super dry weather. *Tip- keep a jar of Extra Virgin Coconut oil in my bathroom and in my kitchen for easy access. Or if you prefer an “I’m fabulous and have no time, busy person, friendly version” simply shampoo and apply a generous amount of the oil to wet strands and twist hair into a bun. Let it sit for at least five minutes before rinsing to add moisture and shine back into limp locks.

2. Cooking:

Letting go of fried foods is a very challenging task, but because there are a few exceptions to the rule, coconut oil makes giving up oily food a lot easier to bare. You won’t be able to tell the difference in taste but there definitely is a difference in calories!

3. Makeup Remover:

Once you dip a cotton ball into some of this baby and remove your toughest water-proof, black liner, and mascara you wonder why you’ve wasted so much time and money in searching for the perfect makeup remover. This is a chemical free, gentle, and nourishing beauty item that is in your kitchen RIGHT NOW. Do yourself the favor and just try it already. You’re welcome.

4. Face & Body Scrub:

When mixed with 1/3 organic brown sugar you have yourself a coconut powdered donut scrub going on in your bathroom. It is the perfect mixture you can create right in the shower without having to prep. Works amazing as a lip scrub, face, and body exfoliator once a week for a deep but gentle cleansing.

5. Massage Oil:

Massage Massage Massage! Massage it on your scalp to promote hair growth. Massage it on your face as you are removing makeup or as you exfoliate facial massages is are coffee for the skin, it makes everything come alive. Massage your body (or someone else, hehe) for some much needed TLC.

Favorite Organic Everyday Foundation

fav foundation

Organic and safe foundations are a vital part of any Green Glam Beauty’s makeup collection. It is the base of your skin that you will be rocking for hours at a time and we want to make sure it not only covers our imperfections but is nourishing our skin as well. It takes just a few seconds for the toxins you apply on your skin to transfer into your bloodstream, that’s INSANE!

The process of finding the PERFECT everyday foundation, that will cover any dark spots and acne scars was truly much harder than I thought. The shades offered just never seemed to match. Finding shades that will work for Tan and darker skin tones in the green beauty community can be a challenge. So, I like to mix different shades together to get the perfect match. When I discovered this combo while I was rushing to work and just couldn’t look a mess, but didn’t have the time to really blend and work on my face. I grabbed my two cleanest foundation and BB creams. If I am going to apply something on my face every single day, you better believe the ingredients are not only non-toxic but good for my skin. I had a little mishap with conventional foundation a few months ago for my Graduation. I used L’Oreal Paris Infallible Matte Foundation as a concealer and it just wrecked havoc on my skin. I wanted to beat the Las Vegas heat and have my makeup last all day. To my surprise (or not really), I woke up with my eyes super swollen, tiny red dots surrounding my eyes, irritated and tender. So from that day forward I made a pledge to never cheat my skin again in hopes of flawless makeup application. You can achieve that with Pure Green Beauty products as well! This combo definitely proves that.

The picture below is of me in natural sunlight, with nothing applied on my face but this foundation combination. You can see that it does a pretty great job of evening out my skin tone, however I still would need to go in and color correct if I wanted a flawless canvas. I think this perfect for everyday wear and do not want any extra steps.

Bare Face: I just have on one layer of the Foundation Combination

I picked up the shade Toffee of the 100% Pure Fruit Pigmented Sheer Water Foundation.  I love the texture, it feels like I am applying a creamy moisturizer. I was a little disappointed with the coverage but then realized that is does say “sheer” therefore it is meant for a super natural makeup look, which makes it perfect for everyday wear. It is a water based foundation, with ingredients like Aloe Vera help with the hydrating and giving the skin a dewy natural glow.

[disclaim]Ingredient list: Aloe Barbadensis Leaf (Organic Aloe Juice)*, Extracts of Prunus Persica (Peach) Fruit, Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot) Fruit, Daucus Carota (Carrot) Sativa Root Punica Granatum (Pomegranate), Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa Bean) and Solanum Lycopersicum (Tomato) Fruit/Leaf/Stem, Zinc Oxide, Euterpe Oleracea Pulp (Acai) Oil, Punica Granatum (Pomegranate) Seed Oil, Resveratrol (Red Wine Resveratrol), Alpha Lipoic Acid, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Oryza Sativa (Rice) Starch, Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Extracts of Rosmarinus (Rosemary) Officinalis Leaf, Origanum Vulgare (Oregano) Leaf, Thymus Vulgaris (Thymus) Flower/Leaf Extract, Vegetable Glycerine, Lonicera Caprifolium (Japanese Honeysuckle) [/disclaim]

I did feel like I needed more coverage and some SPF protection, so of course I reached for Jane Iredale Glow Time Full Coverage Mineral BB Cream in the Shade BB9. Although it is a BB Cream it is super full coverage and a little really does go a looonggg. Technically BB Creams are a primer, foundation, moisturizer and sunscreen in one so they are usually my go-to for everyday wear. The shade had a less of a yellow undertone when applied on my skin so the color was a little off (that is when the 100% pure combo comes in). Although the title says Glow Time I believe the finish is a little more matte, though still super creamy and hydrating, which is actually pretty hard when it comes to full matte coverage. If you have oily skin I suggest setting with powder to last you all day.

Pacifica Muse Contest Makeup Look

Hey guys! As you all may know I was privileged enough to make it to the Top 30 for the Pacifica Muse Contest this year! If you’ve been to my blog you know I’ve raved about this brand and not only their products, but their mission in the beauty industry! They are an 100% Cruelty- Free and Vegan brand, and they participate in the IPSY glam bags and Genbeauty events, which I believe is a step in the right direction when it comes to including Green Beauty in the mainstream beauty industry! I was pretty stocked that they sent me not one, but TWO boxes filled with their products, everything from makeup, wipes, and shaving creams (comment below if you want a haul!). Our challenge was to create a look based on a woman that influences us most in history. I am Dominican & Puerto Rican and super proud of it, so of course I had to represent and create a look on Las Hermanas Mirabal (watch in the Time of the Butterflies for an epic recap of their story). I was drawn to Minerva Mirabal in particular I was so inspired by her witty, feisty, empowered nature, she knew what she wanted and she went out and got it! She created an underground movement to overthrow the torturous and feared Dictator Trujillo. She had the will and the might to fight against the strongest man in the country to keep her people safe, and away from the abuse and injustices happening around her. She did not just weep with sadness (although that would be totally understandable) she got up and did something about it!

5694DFBB-0DDF-44AA-8656-38D205DCA148One of her greatest accomplishments was being the first woman to enter and graduate Law School, during a time when Trujillo was her declared arch enemy. He couldn’t even stop her. Shortly after she began the underground movement with her sisters, they were known as Las Mariposas Mirabal (the Butterfly Mirabal sisters). They were a source of hope, inspiration, and motivation to keep going. She was willing to give up her life for what she believed in and I will forever be grateful for what her movement did for the Dominican Republic. I grew up admiring her essence and the message she exuded. She is the definition of a STRONG and INDEPENDENT woman!

Below I’ve listed the products used (mostly all by Pacifica) they are all Organic, Vegan, and Cruelty-Free products:

-Bronzed (crease)
-Treasure (center)
-Gold Dust Highlight

AFTER SUN MIST HERBIVORE BOTANICALS (used to intensify center metallic color on lid)

ENLIGHTENED GLOSS in Poppy (spicy orange undertone red)

DEVOCEAN NATURAL LIPSTICK in Firebird (literally smells like Coconut Water)

If you don’t use Pacifica for their skincare, wipes, or makeup you are truly missing out. An 100% Vegan and Cruelty Free brand, on a mission to show that green beauty can make you lead a healthier and happier life is definitely right up my alley. Last year they launched an array of new skincare products including a few masks. I was lucky enough to try a few of them… I loved them so much I couldn’t picture my all time favorite which is their hydrating mask, Vital Immersion (I’ll write it’s own review for it later…it’s that good!).  All masks have their own blend of essential oils and fruit extracts so you know you are nourishing your skin with great ingredients.

*Update: Check out the full review of Vital immersion now on the blog! Vital Immersion Review

If you know me, you know I lalalove travel sized products, they come in cute little packages, take up very little space, and you get to try something out before you splurge on the full sized product. Retailing at $18 these masks are reasonably priced so there really is no need to get travel sizes and they are available at: Ulta and Target. Pacifica currently has travel sized lotion and facial wipes on their site which I also adore and really come in handy. I also truly appreciate that Pacifica’s travel sized products that are featured in Ipsy’s subscription bags for example, give you enough use out of them, where you can get a true feel for the product.

The first mask I tried was the Pore Refine Deep Detox mask, when traveling this is a must have. Your pores are gathering so much pollution and bacteria throughout your endeavors getting that gunk out, a gentle way is always a good idea. The texture is creamy and light, feels like you are applying a moisturizer. After applying it for 20 minutes my skin feel soft and it did a great job at unclogging my pores around my nose. This mask is great for a gently deep clean, I believe it’s great for even sensitive skin to apply once a week or to use as a spot treatment when you get any pesky little pimples appearing.

[disclaim]From Pacifica’s website: “Loosen, grab and lift debris to give you the appearance of poreless skin. This modern formula utilizes precious ancient, medicinal ingredients including konjac root, strawberry and tomato that come together to help fight dilated, clogged pores, excess sebum oils, and toxins without over-drying the skin. For Normal to Oily or Acne prone skin.”.[/disclaim]

This mask reminded me of the Kale Detox Face Wash also from Pacifica. The scent is super fresh almost like veggies and the texture is unconventional for the usual mask on the market. The texture is a gel like formula, super lightweight with a cooling effect immediately felt once applied. After leaving it on my face for about 20 minutes I removed with water and felt my skin super smooth and even noticed my face got a bit brighter. It did help with the texture that I have on my cheeks and chin area, if used consistently I think it will work wonders on my skin.

[warning]“An instant solution for dull skin, this powerful non-abrasive mask works like an intensive peel without the downtime or irritation. Formulated to remove and decongest surface debris and dead skin for a refreshed, revitalized, youthful glowing appearance. Ideal for dry to normal skin.”[/warning]

My second favorite (close second to Vital Immersion) of the bunch Skin Revival. This baby packs a powerful punch and is gentle beyond belief! Micro Dermabrasion is something I am new to, but this scrub has helped ease into it. The gentle, tiny Jojoba Beads, and silky texture of it’s creamy substance helps scrub away any dead skin and help rid any acne I may have. I feel like I am in a spa every time I use this and a little really goes a long way.

[question]Revive, brighten and make aging insignificant in your future as you gently scrub dullness away. This effective yet gentle formula with natural beneficials improves the appearance of fine lines and texture.[/question]

You just cannot go wrong with any of these masks and if you get a chance to get any travel sized products be sure to grab them they will make you feel amazing during your getaway, whether its by the beach or in your bath tub, go ahead and treat yourself!

Summer Makeup Look- Purple Smokey Eye

I am super excited for this long awaited post! I had the pleasure of linking up with the lovely Aliya! She is a rockstar when it comes to Green Beauty and her cute London accent doesn’t hurt either! We decided to go with a Summer look. I love a smokey eye and personally I would rock it any time of day. This time I wanted to do a Soft Summer Glam look that you can rock during a Day Brunch and add some messy black liner for a sultry night look. Listed below are the products used and an explanation of the steps taken to achieve this look. I’ve included a link to a previous makeup post where I list out the products used for my face CLICK HERE for details. I pretty much keep it the same unless I am going for a specific different look.

I started off with priming my lids using Maracuja Creaseless Cooncealer (with my fingers and then beauty blender)

-I then continue by set my lids using a Kabuki brush and gently patting on Tarte’s Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay Setting Powder.

-To outline my crease and create a shadow I went in with tapered blending brush and applied the Tartlette Amazonian Clay Matte Eyeshadow Palette in the color wanderer.

– Transition (above the crease color, below the brow highlight (using the same palette) in the shade bestfriend.

-With any fluffy shadow brush I applied natural beauty on the lid, layered on twice.

-Outer Corner (same palette) in the color bombshell.

-I then went in with the same tapered blending brush and deepened the crease shadow, I love a dramatic deep crease as it makes the eyes appear larger and the smokey effect even smokier.

-Lower Lash Line, mixed  bombshell bestfriend.

-Tight-lined my eyes with Lily & Lolo black pencil liner. I absolutely LOVE this stuff, it doesn’t make my eyes red or water and it is so creamy just glides right on!

-Lashes Ardell Natural Soft Touch Lash #160 (now on sale buy one get one 50% off @ Ulta)

-Lips one of my favorites lippies in the makeup industry, not only is it organic but the color is a just bitten red and it smells divine! Vapour Lipstick in the color Intuition.
