Favorite Organic Everyday Foundation

fav foundation

Organic and safe foundations are a vital part of any Green Glam Beauty’s makeup collection. It is the base of your skin that you will be rocking for hours at a time and we want to make sure it not only covers our imperfections but is nourishing our skin as well. It takes just a few seconds for the toxins you apply on your skin to transfer into your bloodstream, that’s INSANE!

The process of finding the PERFECT everyday foundation, that will cover any dark spots and acne scars was truly much harder than I thought. The shades offered just never seemed to match. Finding shades that will work for Tan and darker skin tones in the green beauty community can be a challenge. So, I like to mix different shades together to get the perfect match. When I discovered this combo while I was rushing to work and just couldn’t look a mess, but didn’t have the time to really blend and work on my face. I grabbed my two cleanest foundation and BB creams. If I am going to apply something on my face every single day, you better believe the ingredients are not only non-toxic but good for my skin. I had a little mishap with conventional foundation a few months ago for my Graduation. I used L’Oreal Paris Infallible Matte Foundation as a concealer and it just wrecked havoc on my skin. I wanted to beat the Las Vegas heat and have my makeup last all day. To my surprise (or not really), I woke up with my eyes super swollen, tiny red dots surrounding my eyes, irritated and tender. So from that day forward I made a pledge to never cheat my skin again in hopes of flawless makeup application. You can achieve that with Pure Green Beauty products as well! This combo definitely proves that.

The picture below is of me in natural sunlight, with nothing applied on my face but this foundation combination. You can see that it does a pretty great job of evening out my skin tone, however I still would need to go in and color correct if I wanted a flawless canvas. I think this perfect for everyday wear and do not want any extra steps.

Bare Face: I just have on one layer of the Foundation Combination

I picked up the shade Toffee of the 100% Pure Fruit Pigmented Sheer Water Foundation.  I love the texture, it feels like I am applying a creamy moisturizer. I was a little disappointed with the coverage but then realized that is does say “sheer” therefore it is meant for a super natural makeup look, which makes it perfect for everyday wear. It is a water based foundation, with ingredients like Aloe Vera help with the hydrating and giving the skin a dewy natural glow.

[disclaim]Ingredient list: Aloe Barbadensis Leaf (Organic Aloe Juice)*, Extracts of Prunus Persica (Peach) Fruit, Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot) Fruit, Daucus Carota (Carrot) Sativa Root Punica Granatum (Pomegranate), Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa Bean) and Solanum Lycopersicum (Tomato) Fruit/Leaf/Stem, Zinc Oxide, Euterpe Oleracea Pulp (Acai) Oil, Punica Granatum (Pomegranate) Seed Oil, Resveratrol (Red Wine Resveratrol), Alpha Lipoic Acid, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Oryza Sativa (Rice) Starch, Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Extracts of Rosmarinus (Rosemary) Officinalis Leaf, Origanum Vulgare (Oregano) Leaf, Thymus Vulgaris (Thymus) Flower/Leaf Extract, Vegetable Glycerine, Lonicera Caprifolium (Japanese Honeysuckle) [/disclaim]

I did feel like I needed more coverage and some SPF protection, so of course I reached for Jane Iredale Glow Time Full Coverage Mineral BB Cream in the Shade BB9. Although it is a BB Cream it is super full coverage and a little really does go a looonggg. Technically BB Creams are a primer, foundation, moisturizer and sunscreen in one so they are usually my go-to for everyday wear. The shade had a less of a yellow undertone when applied on my skin so the color was a little off (that is when the 100% pure combo comes in). Although the title says Glow Time I believe the finish is a little more matte, though still super creamy and hydrating, which is actually pretty hard when it comes to full matte coverage. If you have oily skin I suggest setting with powder to last you all day.

Pacifica Muse Contest Makeup Look

Hey guys! As you all may know I was privileged enough to make it to the Top 30 for the Pacifica Muse Contest this year! If you’ve been to my blog you know I’ve raved about this brand and not only their products, but their mission in the beauty industry! They are an 100% Cruelty- Free and Vegan brand, and they participate in the IPSY glam bags and Genbeauty events, which I believe is a step in the right direction when it comes to including Green Beauty in the mainstream beauty industry! I was pretty stocked that they sent me not one, but TWO boxes filled with their products, everything from makeup, wipes, and shaving creams (comment below if you want a haul!). Our challenge was to create a look based on a woman that influences us most in history. I am Dominican & Puerto Rican and super proud of it, so of course I had to represent and create a look on Las Hermanas Mirabal (watch in the Time of the Butterflies for an epic recap of their story). I was drawn to Minerva Mirabal in particular I was so inspired by her witty, feisty, empowered nature, she knew what she wanted and she went out and got it! She created an underground movement to overthrow the torturous and feared Dictator Trujillo. She had the will and the might to fight against the strongest man in the country to keep her people safe, and away from the abuse and injustices happening around her. She did not just weep with sadness (although that would be totally understandable) she got up and did something about it!

5694DFBB-0DDF-44AA-8656-38D205DCA148One of her greatest accomplishments was being the first woman to enter and graduate Law School, during a time when Trujillo was her declared arch enemy. He couldn’t even stop her. Shortly after she began the underground movement with her sisters, they were known as Las Mariposas Mirabal (the Butterfly Mirabal sisters). They were a source of hope, inspiration, and motivation to keep going. She was willing to give up her life for what she believed in and I will forever be grateful for what her movement did for the Dominican Republic. I grew up admiring her essence and the message she exuded. She is the definition of a STRONG and INDEPENDENT woman!

Below I’ve listed the products used (mostly all by Pacifica) they are all Organic, Vegan, and Cruelty-Free products:

-Bronzed (crease)
-Treasure (center)
-Gold Dust Highlight

AFTER SUN MIST HERBIVORE BOTANICALS (used to intensify center metallic color on lid)

ENLIGHTENED GLOSS in Poppy (spicy orange undertone red)

DEVOCEAN NATURAL LIPSTICK in Firebird (literally smells like Coconut Water)

If you don’t use Pacifica for their skincare, wipes, or makeup you are truly missing out. An 100% Vegan and Cruelty Free brand, on a mission to show that green beauty can make you lead a healthier and happier life is definitely right up my alley. Last year they launched an array of new skincare products including a few masks. I was lucky enough to try a few of them… I loved them so much I couldn’t picture my all time favorite which is their hydrating mask, Vital Immersion (I’ll write it’s own review for it later…it’s that good!).  All masks have their own blend of essential oils and fruit extracts so you know you are nourishing your skin with great ingredients.

*Update: Check out the full review of Vital immersion now on the blog! Vital Immersion Review

If you know me, you know I lalalove travel sized products, they come in cute little packages, take up very little space, and you get to try something out before you splurge on the full sized product. Retailing at $18 these masks are reasonably priced so there really is no need to get travel sizes and they are available at: Ulta and Target. Pacifica currently has travel sized lotion and facial wipes on their site which I also adore and really come in handy. I also truly appreciate that Pacifica’s travel sized products that are featured in Ipsy’s subscription bags for example, give you enough use out of them, where you can get a true feel for the product.

PORE REFINE: DEEP DETOX MASK $18 on pacificabeauty.com

The first mask I tried was the Pore Refine Deep Detox mask, when traveling this is a must have. Your pores are gathering so much pollution and bacteria throughout your endeavors getting that gunk out, a gentle way is always a good idea. The texture is creamy and light, feels like you are applying a moisturizer. After applying it for 20 minutes my skin feel soft and it did a great job at unclogging my pores around my nose. This mask is great for a gently deep clean, I believe it’s great for even sensitive skin to apply once a week or to use as a spot treatment when you get any pesky little pimples appearing.

[disclaim]From Pacifica’s website: “Loosen, grab and lift debris to give you the appearance of poreless skin. This modern formula utilizes precious ancient, medicinal ingredients including konjac root, strawberry and tomato that come together to help fight dilated, clogged pores, excess sebum oils, and toxins without over-drying the skin. For Normal to Oily or Acne prone skin.”.[/disclaim]

This mask reminded me of the Kale Detox Face Wash also from Pacifica. The scent is super fresh almost like veggies and the texture is unconventional for the usual mask on the market. The texture is a gel like formula, super lightweight with a cooling effect immediately felt once applied. After leaving it on my face for about 20 minutes I removed with water and felt my skin super smooth and even noticed my face got a bit brighter. It did help with the texture that I have on my cheeks and chin area, if used consistently I think it will work wonders on my skin.

[warning]“An instant solution for dull skin, this powerful non-abrasive mask works like an intensive peel without the downtime or irritation. Formulated to remove and decongest surface debris and dead skin for a refreshed, revitalized, youthful glowing appearance. Ideal for dry to normal skin.”[/warning]

My second favorite (close second to Vital Immersion) of the bunch Skin Revival. This baby packs a powerful punch and is gentle beyond belief! Micro Dermabrasion is something I am new to, but this scrub has helped ease into it. The gentle, tiny Jojoba Beads, and silky texture of it’s creamy substance helps scrub away any dead skin and help rid any acne I may have. I feel like I am in a spa every time I use this and a little really goes a long way.

[question]Revive, brighten and make aging insignificant in your future as you gently scrub dullness away. This effective yet gentle formula with natural beneficials improves the appearance of fine lines and texture.[/question]

You just cannot go wrong with any of these masks and if you get a chance to get any travel sized products be sure to grab them they will make you feel amazing during your getaway, whether its by the beach or in your bath tub, go ahead and treat yourself!

ALL ABOUT THE GLOW- Dewy Bronzed Fresh Faced Look

READY FOR SUMMER FUN! I was inspired by the scorching hot weather here in Las Vegas and I needed a way to cover up because I got a MAJOR breakout all over my under eye area the day before.  I have to be honest guys I cheated one day and used L’oreal Infallible on my under eyes and T-zone area. I was always impressed by how it brightened up my face and I was in a rush and knew I was going to sweat during my graduation ceremony so I took precautions. BAD BAD MISTAKE! I finally had my last reassurance and confirmation that Green is DEF the way to go! If I need to use some of my conventional favorite products every once in a while, it should be very minimal and something that will not last all day on my face. The outcome was very painful and irritating so I remedied my mistake and used an exfoliating and then a hydrating super recovering mask as I let cucumber eye patch lay and sooth my pains! (More on my skincare routine soon!)

To make a long story short my parents were visiting and we were headed to the pool and I could NOT look a hot mess. The skincare routine really helped but I was terrified of using any more makeup to cover up the redness and tiny bumps surrounding my eye area. So I went with a J.Lo Glow inspired look, very minimal natural glowing from within type of look. I was on a mission to prove I could get the same results if not BETTER using green products and I sure did a damn good job! I def will not be going back.

Listed below are all products used and links to where to buy them!

-No primer this time just the wonderful soothing RMS Living Luminizer on the points of my face where the sun naturally hits.

-As per usual Jane Iredale Enlighten Concealer used for covering up dark spots around my face and on my under eyes.

Janeiredale Glow Time full coverage Mineral BB Creme in the shade BB9. Let me tell you I am SOOO IMPRESSED by this beauty. It is definitely true to it’s name creating a smooth glowy canvas to start with. It is lightweight bur also feels like you are wearing a moisturizer all day, leaving your face feeling fresh and hydrated.

Juice Beauty Phyto Pigments Perfecting Concealer in the shade Sand (Ulta now has a gift with purchase).

100% Pure Fruit Pigmented Brightening Concealer for brightening the under eye area and the middle of the forehead.

Vita Liberata Trystal Self Tanning Bronzing Minerals shade No.2 topped with a little of Alima Pure Bronzer in Trinidad.

Au Naturale blush in Apricot

-Tapped over the areas I used the RMS Luminzer, using a damp beauty blender with Josie Maran Argan Illuminizer  and then topped it off with Tarte Skin Twinkle Lighting Palette sweeping my brush through all three colors.

Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Lip Quench Rescue Lip Balm in the shade Nude. This collection of lippies are limited edition so get them while they’re hot! These are definitely not super pigmented but give you just enough tint to be able to wear alone or under another lipstick. Quench is the right word when it comes to this baby, I immediately felt a wave of hydration and moisture, Tarte uses an emollient formula that includes a combination of marine and botanical extracts selected for their conditioning and firming properties, which will explain the subtle hint of minty freshness that overcome your lips once applying.

[disclaim]Vegan and featuring a super cute gold Sea Shell design on the Eco Friendly Packaging! [/disclaim]

– Jane Iredale PureLash™ Extender & Conditioner

Winks Adhesive by Georgie Beauty

Winks by Georgie Beauty in the style  No. 2 ‘L’Avant Gardiste’ (I go in detail about this brand’s Lash Glue and Faux lashes in a previous Blogpost! Click Here)

-For that extra glow I swept Au Naturale Cosmetics Creme Shadow in Ivory, a gorgeous beige color with golden undertones perfection to wear alone or as an eye shadow primer.

-Tighlined my eyes with Lily Lolo Natural Black Eyeliner. It’s super creamy, pigmented, easy to apply AND VEGAN!

Love Your Lashes the Way You Love the Rest of Your Face! Healthier Alternatives to Toxic Lash Glue.

Transitioning to a healthier isn’t always easy, but oh it is sooo worth it! As you all know my transition to healthier life includes my beauty routine a great deal. I just could not and WOULD NOT settle with stripping away my glam lifestyle. Makeup is a huge part of my outlet to express my creativity, boost my self-esteem, and just have fun!

When it came to lashes I was ready to conform and just give them up. Sadly many of the eyelashes are not Cruelty-Free and when it comes to Lash Adhesives many are loaded with toxic ingredients. Ingredients like Parabens, Fragrance, and Phosphates can cause allergic reactions and can really irritate and harm your eyes. The ingredient that I find most alarming is Formaldehyde. Formaldehyde is an organic compound that’s been recently recognized by the EPA as a Carcinogen.

After a glam session consisting of lashes, I noticed lots of red tiny bumps appeared around my eyes. I would wake up the next day with a really sensitive, sore, irritated eye area which led me to have fewer makeup days. Which I am okay with as I truly believe letting your skin breathe is key. However I want it to be my choice and I never want to be in pain because of my passion for makeup. I’ve come to the conclusion that many of the conventional lash glues were not helping my cause for a greener lifestyle. So I am so excited to share with you my top two Lash glue options and some cruelty free lashes I know you will love!

[disclaim]When trying new products I suggest testing it on your wrist or the back of your hand 24 hours before using it on your delicate eye area. If you see a red mark, rash, or any sign of swelling or irritation it is safe to say you probably shouldn’t be using it. [/disclaim]

Georgie Beauty

The best performing Cruelty-Free Lash Adhesive out there! The hold on this baby is impeccable and performance just as, if not better than the conventional popular competitor Ardell Duo Adhesive. Not for nothing but have you ever smelled that glue? It just screams TOXIC. Winks Adhesive by Georgie Beauty is the first dermatologist tested, PETA and 100% Vegan Certified eyelash glue. It’s infused with USDA Certified Organic blue chamomile that’ll be sure to help soothe the thinnest layer of your skin. Now this isn’t the greenest option out there but it does not contain formaldehyde, phthalates, or paraben so it’s definitely something I can work with. (Retails for $8.00)

When I discovered True Glue Adhesive I literally jumped for joy. One look at the ingredients and I knew this was a dream come true for anyone looking for a healthy alternative. It doesn’t hold as well as the Georgie Brand but considering the ingredients I am willing to compromise. It isn’t 100% Vegan because of the beeswax used but they are Cruelty-Free. I would suggest applying these with a lightweight lash that has a thin band (which are pretty easy to come by). It applies and dries on clear so you won’t have to worry about lining your eyes if it doesn’t go with Check out these amazing ingredients and do yourself the favor and GO GET SOME! (Retails for $15.99)

Rosewater, Chamomile Extract, Biotin, Candelila Wax, Pullulann, Geranium, Glycerin, Beeswax, and Castor Oil.

When it comes to lashes the top of the line for Silk Handmade Mink Alternatives are:

Battington Lashes- caution with the band it is thicker than I am used to but it actually helps when applying liner and making the lash-line look flawless. The first time I applied them the band did poke my eye so I found that trimming them to fit my eye shape did the trick.

Winks by Georgie Beauty- beautiful styles available retailing at just $15 like the one photographed above. Style No. 2 ‘L’Avant Gardiste’ Faux Lashes is my favorite as it starts off short on the inner corner and flares out becoming fuller as they go. This band is very thin so and lightweight so it is super easy to apply.

Ardell Lashes- When it comes to affordable Cruelty Free I have to give it to Ardell. Although their glue is not my favorite I can always count on their lashes to save the day for any style and look I am going for. The fact that I can find them in my local CVS doesn’t hurt either.

It’s time to break the mold and make some changes, one lash at a time! Comment below if there are any other organic or cruelty free lashes/lash glue you can’t live without!
